Purpose:This study was to translate the Short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) from English to Korean and evaluate psychometrics of the pain measure for old adults.
Method:Four experts rated the relevance of each item to the objective to determine the content validlty of the SF-MPQ, Korean version. The convenient sample consisting of 120 Korean with pain was participated to evaluate the reliability and validity of the tool.
Result:Content validity was accepted by CVI=0.80 in nurse specialists and CVI=0.53 in medical doctors. High alpha coefficient was .86. The correlations between the multidimensional scale and unidimensional scales of the SF-MPQ were r=.76-.85. The type and degree of the pain brought from various diseases were significantly different, using Kruskal Wallis test(x©÷ =l 1.32-21.50, p=.045-.001). The scores of the pain between pre and post operation were significantly different (k.45.49, p<.00l, z=-3.86, p<.00l). The results of determining criterion-related validity of the SF-MPQ on the Numeric Rating Scale indicated that SF-MPQ was strongly correlated with NRS.
Conclusion:The SF-MPQ, Korean version was reliable and valid in assessing the various pains that Korean old adults had.
